Motorcyclist suffers significant injuries in high-speed crash, racing with other motorcycles before collision
On July 30th, 2024 at 7:24pm, Spokane Police responded to the area of Euclid and Division on a report of a collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle. Officers arrived to find the driver of the motorcyclist down in the roadway. The motorcycle he was operating at the time of the collision was found almost two blocks away from where it first impacted with the other vehicle.
The driver of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital with significant injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured. Due to the seriousness of the collision, the area was closed down to allow traffic investigators from the SPDās Major Crimes Unit to safely investigate the incident.
Witnesses advised officers that prior to the collision, a group of motorcyclists were driving extremely fast and weaving in and out of traffic. Investigators determined the motorcycle that crashed was travelling well over twice the posted speed limit at the time of impact. Information provided indicated the motorcycle, due to the extreme speed at the time, was unable to maintain control before striking the rear of another vehicle.
SPD would like to remind everyone of the dangers associated with this type of activity on the roadway, which increases in the summer months. In this case, the 20 year old motorcycle driver not only suffered severe injuries, but endangered other drivers and pedestrians as well.
