SWAT situation on South Hill ends with suspect in-custody

SWAT situation on South Hill ends with suspect in-custody, no victims injured. On 06-19-16 at a little after 11:30PM, SPD responded to a domestic violence situation at the 1400 block of E 38th Ave. The situation was reportedly between a male and female, and a firearm was said to be involved. Initial responding SPD units were able to safely remove a female and child from the residence. Attempts were made almost immediately to communicate with the suspect, who was prohibited from being at the location by court order. The attempts to persuade the suspect to surrender were unsuccessful. Due to the reports of a firearm being involved, the SPD SWAT team was utilized along with SPD K-9 unit, and hostage negotiators. The SWAT team was able to enter the residence and remove two other children from the home. A firearm was also located in the house. More attempts were made to get the suspect to surrender peacefully, all of which were unsuccessful. Utilizing the K-9 unit the suspect was located hiding in the residence, and was taken into custody. No victims were injured during the incident. The suspect, Jacob Swain (age 34), sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital prior to being booked into Spokane County Jail for residential burglary (DV) and violation of a domestic violence court order. SPD takes domestic violence incidents seriously. If you, or someone you know, is the victim of a domestic violence crime please report it. SPD is committed to not only enforcing applicable law, but also helping victims obtain the neccesary resources to ensure their long term safety and emotional well-being.
