3rd and Ray Vehicle Chase Update

Officers responded to the Fred Meyers in the East Central Neighborhood on 09/16/2019 at about 1825 hours for a report of a wanted subject. The subject took off and crashed into a tree nearby. The subject was arrested for several charges.

On 09/16/2019, at about 1825 hours, Officers were dispatched to a possible wanted subject at Fred Meyers in the 400 block of South Thor Street. The caller advised the wanted subject was getting into a brown and white older Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Officers arrived on-scene and noticed the Dodge Ram driving through the parking lot. Officers tried to initiate a traffic stop on that vehicle by activating their emergency lights but the vehicle took off. The vehicle went through the parking lot almost striking a couple of pedestrians who were walking from the store. The vehicle then exited the parking lot and started headed the wrong way on 3rd Avenue, which is a one way going eastbound.

Due to safety reasons, Officers did not pursue the vehicle. About a half block later, the vehicle lost control and ran into a tree. The driver, identified as 18 year old Anthony Kain, got out of the vehicle and started to run.

Officers were on-scene quickly and were able to take Anthony into custody without incident. A check of Anthony’s name revealed that he had a felony Department of Corrections warrant for dangerous drugs and a misdemeanor theft warrant.

Anthony was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Attempt to Elude a Police Vehicle, DUI and DWLS 3rd degree. Anthony was also booked on his two warrants.

Fortunately no pedestrians or other drivers were injured in this case.

  1. When reporting the name of the suspect, shouldn’t the last name be the way to refer to him? It just seems too familiar for them to be referred by their first name… I have noticed this is a few of the reports posted here…
