7200 North Market Vehicle vs Motorcycle Collision Update
Driver Involved in Serious Collision Flees the Scene
A male driver fled on foot after the vehicle he was driving collided with a vehicle on Market, careened into a parking lot and struck a male causing serious and potentially fatal injuries. Witnesses stated the male was driving at a very high rate of speed prior to the collision.
On September 20, 2018, at approximately 5:40 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call reported hit & run, injury collision in the 7200 block of N. Market St. Arriving Deputies learned the driver of a red 1997 Ford Explorer caused the collision and immediately fled the scene after the crash.

The incident began when the adult male driver of a Jeep Cherokee, traveling east on Wilding, stopped at the stop sign at Market. As he began to turn northbound on Market, he noticed a red Ford Explorer driving south at a very high-rate of speed. The driver of the Explorer attempted to swerve but collided with the Jeep causing the Jeep to spin. The Explorer continued across Market, went off the roadway and through a fence. It continued into a parking lot and struck the adult male victim and the motorcycle parked next to him, narrowly missing the occupied vehicle/driver who was talking with the victim.

The victim sustained serious, life-threatening, injuries. A passerby stopped to assist and quickly applied a tourniquet in an attempt to stop the severe bleeding from the victim’s leg, potentially saving the victim’s life. Spokane County Fire District 9, Spokane City Fire, and AMR personnel arrived to provide advanced medical care. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in satisfactory condition earlier today.

The male suspect fled the scene on foot. Deputies, assisted by a Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit, conducted a search of the area but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Due to the serious and potentially life-threatening injuries, Traffic Collision Investigators were called to the scene to continue the investigation.

SIRT Team Volunteers responded to the scene to assist with traffic control.

With the aid of witnesses, Investigators identified 34-year-old Andrew D. Clifton as a possible suspect/driver of the Ford Explorer at the time of the collision and are attempting to locate him.

Anyone with information/surveillance video regarding this injury collision, or witnessed it but have not been contact by law enforcement, is asked to call Corporal Jeff Welton at 509-477-3237.
