Homicide Investigation on N. Bear Lake Road
Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives are investigating a homicide at a residence, located in the 27000 block of N. Bear Lake Road, in North Spokane County. The suspect is in custody.
On December 5, 2018, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff Deputies responded to a call of an adult male who was found on the floor, bleeding. The adult female caller stated she thought a family member had shot and killed the victim.
Deputies and Spokane County Fire personnel arrived at the scene where the victim was pronounced deceased.
Major Crimes Detectives were called to the scene to conduct the investigation. Investigators learned a vehicle was missing from the scene and quickly identified a family member as a person of interest. The vehicle was quickly entered as stolen and the information was broadcast to all the regional law enforcement agencies, along with the information regarding the person of interest, later identified as the suspect, 24-year-old Trystn G. Higgins.
At approximately 8:45 p.m., an attentive Spokane Police Officer observed the stolen vehicle and alerted addition officers. The vehicle was stopped near Sprague and Cowley and the suspect was taken into custody by Officers without incident.
Spokane county Forensic Unit personnel were called to the scene of the homicide while Detectives seek a search warrant. SIRT Team Volunteers also responded to assist with traffic control.
Trystn Higgins, who faces murder charges, was transported to the Public Safety Building where he is currently being interviewed by Detectives.
Investigators will remain at the scene for several hours as this investigation continues.
