Deputy Attempting to Locate Hit & Run Vehicle/Driver
Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Humphrey is asking for your help as he works to identify the driver of a vehicle who hit a pedestrian Tuesday evening on W. Melville Road before fleeing the scene. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.
On October 10, 2017, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Deputy Humphrey responded to a hit and run, auto/pedestrian collision on W. Melville Road, near Fruitvale, in West Spokane County.
The victim’s girlfriend explained she was walking with the victim westbound on Melville. She was off the pavement partially in the ditch, and the victim was on the shoulder next to her, out of the lane of travel.
She observed headlights approaching from the rear and looked over her shoulder. She observed a red Isuzu Trooper pass by, and then noticed a blue sedan behind it heading toward the victim. She yelled for the victim to get out of the way but the blue sedan crossed over the fog line and struck the victim, throwing him over the hood and mirror of the vehicle. The vehicle’s passenger side mirror broke off during the collision as the vehicle continued westbound on Melville and fled the scene.
The victim who sustained serious, but what appeared to be non-life-threatening wounds, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Deputy Humphrey collected the mirror as evidence but was unable to locate the blue sedan or the red Isuzu Trooper it was traveling behind. It is unknown if the two vehicles are associated with each other.
