Deputy Involved Shooting 12/28 Update

The Spokane Investigative Regional Response (SIRR) Team is investigating a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) officer-involved shooting that occurred at 4:00 p.m., on December 28^th, 2015, near Excelsior Rd. just off of Hwy. 195.

 

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Tina A.M. Fricke, faces at least one count of Assault and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.  Due to the number of potential victims and witnesses, additional charges are expected. 

 

Investigators ask anyone who has not already been contacted by law enforcement and had contact with Fricke earlier in the day, witnessed this incident or took video of this incident to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233 and reference #15-455309.

 

The incident began just before 4:00pm when a citizen reported Fricke was standing in the median of Hwy. 195 near Excelsior Rd., pointing a handgun at passing cars.  Several more calls were received stating Fricke was pointing a gun at vehicles traveling in the area.

When a Spokane County Deputy arrived, he confronted Fricke who was still holding the handgun.  The deputy fired one shot, striking Fricke in the shoulder. The deputy immediately provided medical aid. Fricke was transported to a local hospital where she is currently listed in stable condition.

No other citizens or deputies were injured during this incident. The handgun Fricke had was recovered by investigators at the scene.

Fricke has one previous felony conviction for Taking Motor Vehicle without Permission.

One of the Washington State Patrol Troopers arriving on scene during this incident had an in-car camera.

This continues to be an active and ongoing investigation. SIRR detectives and Spokane County Forensic Unit Technicians will continue to process evidence, interview witnesses and interview the officers involved with this incident.

The SIRR Team is comprised of multiple agencies in Eastern Washington, including the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, Spokane Police Department, and Airway Heights Police Department.

• The Spokane Police Department is the managing agency in this incident and all future release of information regarding this incident will be sent via the SIRR Team.

• The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office will release the name of the deputy involved in this incident.

• Once the SIRR Team investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
