Elderly Female Attempts to Assault Neighbors, Stabs One Victim in the Chest with a Knife

Spokane Valley Deputies responded to a call of a woman, armed with a knife, attacking people.  They arrived to find a group of citizens had disarmed and detained the 67-year-old suspect.  One of the persons who helped was stabbed in the chest during the incident.  He was treated at the hospital for an approximate 1” deep stab wound and later released.

On May 26, 2019, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Spokane Valley Deputies responded to a report of a suspect armed with a knife was attacking people at an apartment complex located in the 9900 block of E. 16th Ave. in Spokane Valley.

While en route to the location, Deputies were advised citizens had disarmed the suspect and were detaining her.  They also learned one person had reportedly been stabbed in the chest during the altercation.

Arriving Deputies learned the 67-year-old suspect, Carole A. Cady, has been having mental health issues which seem to be worsening over the last few days where Cady had threatened others in the complex.

Deputies took custody of Cady who was yelling obscenities, calling people vulgar names and screaming, “I’m not the killer!”  Cady kicked at Deputies and was not cooperative.

The adult male victim stated he had heard Cady outside yelling.  Knowing Cady has had mental health issues and done this in the past, he went outside to see what was happening, but Cady had already gone back into her apartment.

Several minutes later, he heard honking outside and heard Cady yelling again.  He walked out on his balcony to investigate and observed Cady holding a shovel in one hand and a steak knife in the other.  She was only a few feet away from another resident who was sitting in her car, honking the horn.  To the victim, it appeared Cady was preparing to assault the other person, whom Cady had threatened in the recent past.

He ran down to try and help, but Cady started to head back to her apartment when she saw the victim.  The victim and another male resident ran after Cady, fearing Cady had just attempted to assault the other resident with a shovel and knife.

They caught up to Cady at her front door.  Cady had dropped the shovel but still held the knife in her hand.  When they tried to detain Cady, she stabbed at the men wildly with the knife, stabbing the victim once in the chest.  Eventually, they restrained Cady, disarmed her, and waited for Deputies to arrive.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Deputies arrested Cady and transported her to the Spokane County Jail where she was booked for two counts of Assault 2nd Degree.

The victim was treated at a hospital for an approximate 1” stab wound to his chest and later released.
