Highland 2 Fire Update

NEWS FROM THE FIRELINE: The Highland fire started at 9:30 AM, the fire was approved for state mobilization at 10:30 AM which allowed for additional resources to be deployed from around the state. The Spokane County Incident Management Team assumed command at 7:00 PM. Thanks to the great work of local agencies the fire was knocked down and did not damage any structures. Local firefighters also responded to a small fire on State Route 174 that was quickly contained at approximately 35 acres. Crews will continue to work through the night and into Thursday strengthening the fire line.
CONTAINMENT: 50%
SIZE: 600 acres
LOCATION: Approximately 6 miles East of Bridgeport, WA & 6.5 miles East of Leahy Rd. On State Route 174.
VEGETATION TYPE AND TERRAIN: Sage and Heavy Grass in moderate terrain.
WEATHER: 48% humidity with northwest winds 8-12 MPH .
PERSONNEL: 100
RESOURCES: Spokane County Incident Management Team A, 3 Strike Teams consisting of 5 engines and one water tender, 1 dozer and 1 – 20 person hand crew.
AGENCIES & COOPERATORS INVOLVED: Douglas County Fire District 3, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, American Red Cross, and Washington State Patrol Fire Mobilization.
OTHER INFORMATION: Approximately 7 residences were given a level 2 evacuation notice. The evacuation notice remains in place at this time. Pearl Hill Road remains closed.”
