One Person Dies After Early Morning Altercation Escalates

Kalispel Tribal & Airway Heights Police Investigators are conducting a homicide investigation at an apartment complex located at 10913 W. 6Th Avenue in Airway Heights.  An adult male resident living at the complex confronted several individuals for being loud in the parking lot.  This quickly escalated into a physical fight resulting in the death of the resident. 

This morning at approximately 5:50 a.m., Kalispel Tribal Police & Airway Heights Police Officers responded to a call of a fight between two males, one possibly armed with a bat, in the parking lot of the apartments located to 10913 W. 6th in Airway Heights.  Additional information was provided to responding units there was a lot of yelling, several people running from the scene, one male lying on the ground injured, and another male who was unconscious.

Officers and Airway Heights Fire personnel arrived and immediately provided medical attention and secured the scene.  One male was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.  Despite life-saving efforts, the second male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A Spokane Police Department K9 Unit arrived to conduct a track for a male who fled the scene assisted by Air 1 but the search was unsuccessful.

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Major Crime Detectives, FBI Investigators and Spokane County Forensic Unit personnel were called to assist with the investigation.

Kalispel Tribal Police and Airway Heights Police Departments are the lead agencies for this investigation.

Detectives do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the citizens in the area and believe this was an isolated incident.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the deceased male when appropriate to do so.
