Graveyard patrol officers, following up on a bulletin about a vehicle prowling in the area of Francis and Division, took Dustin S Arlt (33) into custody for multiple felony and misdemeanor charges. Ofc.’s Corrigan Mohondro and Kris Henderson went to the area early this morning looking for the suspect who was seen on surveillance riding a distinctly marked bicycle. After contacting Arlt, their follow up investigation led to his arrest for Theft of a Firearm, 1stDegree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine) 1st Degree Trafficking in Stolen Property, Possession of a Stolen Firearm (all felonies), and two counts of 2nd Degree Vehicle Prowling (misdemeanors).

On Oct. 21, 2018, just before 3:00pm, officers responded to the report of a vehicle prowling in the parking lot of Ace’s Casino in the 6300 block of north Division. Two different vehicles in the parking lot had been broken into overnight. One of the victim’s reported a firearm had been stolen during the prowling. Surveillance footage was provided to the officers showing a  white male, riding a very distinctly marked bicycle, was the suspect.

The photos of the male and the bike were distributed amongst patrol officers not only for follow up on the incident, but because of the safety risk the stolen firearm now posed to both citizens and officers.

That same day, just before 9:30pm, officers responded to the report of a male attempting to sell a firearm in the parking lot of the casino. The description of the firearm the male was trying to sell was similar to that of the one that was stolen in the earlier prowling. Officers responded to the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

Just after 4:00am on Oct. 22, 2018, Ofc.’s Mohondro and Henderson were in the area of the casino looking for the vehicle prowling suspect and the bike that had been pictured in the surveillance footage. They spotted the male, later identified as Arlt, and the bike just south of Dalke on Division and stopped him to follow up on the vehicle prowling investigation.

Based on their thorough analysis of the evidence, detailed interviews of those involved, and their exceptional follow up, the officers placed Arlt under arrest and booked him into Spokane County Jail for the above charges.
