“SPD makes arrest in Attempted Robbery
On 5/28/16 around 2:00 p.m. Spokane Police responded to an attempted robbery at the 76 station in the 8600 block on N. Nevada.
The suspect, identified as James A Baggett, 21, stole a van near Cusick, WA and drove to Spokane. At the gas station he parked near a propane tank. Baggett went in to the store and demanded cash and cigarettes. He claimed to have explosives in the van and was going to blow the place up if he didn’t get what he wanted.
The clerks in the store blocked Baggett’s attempt to walk behind the counter and called 911. Baggett was frustrated by their actions and drove off in the van.
The Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office had been looking for the van. Deputies stopped the van after the robbery attempt and detained Baggett.
Spokane Police officers responded to the traffic stop and arrested Baggett for Attempted 1st Degree Robbery.
Baggett was booked in to the Spokane County Jail.
This is a great example of collaboration between the law enforcement agencies and courageous action by the clerks.
