Subway Robbery Suspect Charged with Quick Stop Robbery

Suspect Previously Arrested for the Robbery of a Spokane Valley Subway, Now Charged for the Robbery of the Chattaroy Quick Stop Last February

This afternoon, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detective Nate Bohanek charged 34-year-old Matthew D. Gardner with Robbery 1st Degree and Assault 2nd Degree for the robbery of the Chattaroy Quick Stop on February 17, 2019.

Initially arrested on March 26, 2019, Gardner was still in custody, with a bond of $150,000, for separate charges of Robbery 1st Degree and Assault 2nd Degree for the robbery of a Spokane Valley Subway on March 1, 2019.

Can You Help Identify this Robbery Suspect?

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detective Nate Bohanek is attempting to identify the male robbery suspect in these photos. The suspect, armed with a knife, was driving a “gunmetal gray” SUV.

On February 17, 2019, just before 8:50 p.m., the male suspect entered the Chattaroy Quick Stop-Conoco, located at 28312 N. Newport Hwy., and demanded money from the clerk while holding a knife in his hand.

After he grabbed the money, the suspect ran out of the business and fled north in the SUV.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6’01”, 190 lbs., with dark brown/black hair. He was wearing a black jacket, with two visible light-colored seams/stripes on the hood, blue jeans, and dark gloves.

The vehicle driven by the suspect is a gray/silver SUV, possibly a 4-door Ford Escape.
