Spokane Police investigate suspicious packages left on a gas pump at the Mobile station in the 100 block of W. 2nd Ave.

Today, March 22, just before 12:00PM Spokane Police responded to the Mobil gas station near the intersection of S. Browne St. / W. 2nd Ave., for the report of suspicious packages abandoned at a gas pump.  Upon arrival, an orange Pelican case and a black nylon bag were located together on top of a gas pump.  Due to the suspicious nature and location of the packages, Spokane Police shut down roads in the immediate and surrounding area.  Washington State Patrol also assisted by shutting down the on and off ramps for Interstate 90 at S. Division St.  The Spokane Regional Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) responded to the scene to investigate the nature of the packages.  The Spokane Fire Department and AMR also staged in the area.  Upon completion of the EDU investigation, the packages were determined not to be threatening in nature.  The case and bag contained drug paraphernalia and marijuana.

Spokane Police take suspicious incidents like this very seriously, and will take every precaution to keep the community safe.   Spokane Police would like to thank the community for their patience while major roads in the area were shut down for the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the ownership of the case and bag is asked to call Crime Check.  Spokane Police encourage suspicious activity reports from the community to Crime Check at (509)456-2233.
