Teen Arrested after Threats Made to Shoot Up Area School

Spokane Police Major Crimes Detectives have arrested a juvenile male after threats were made to “shoot up” an area school. The male resides in Spokane County and does not attend the same school as the victims who were threatened. This is an ongoing investigation, however investigators believe there is no current risk to any schools from this particular incident.

Last night, November 18, 2018, just before 9:00pm, Spokane Police received the report of a threat made to several middle school students. The threat was made after an argument by another juvenile acquaintance to “shoot up” the school that the three victims went to. When the initial report was made, it was unclear if the suspect even knew what school the three victims went to.

Spokane Public Schools was alerted as a precaution and has been working with SPD to complete the investigation and ensure student safety. Our investigators worked with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and ultimately the threats, coupled with additional information, led to the arrest of the juvenile male in Spokane County. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into Spokane County Juvenile Detention for one count of Felony Harassment and additional charges could follow.

We greatly appreciate the assistance from both Spokane Public Schools and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office during this investigation.
