Today, February 4, 2015, at approximately 5:15 am, Spokane Police received a report of a shooting near the intersection of E. 43rd Ave. and S. Arthur St. The report indicated a vehicle prowling suspect may have shot himself in an altercation with a resident of the neighborhood where he was allegedly prowling.

Officers arrived on-scene and determined there had been a confrontation between a resident of the neighborhood (a neighbor of the owner of the prowled vehicle) and a vehicle prowling suspect. The neighbor indicated a man had broken into his neighbor’s vehicle and he had confronted the suspect and attempted to detain the suspect. A firearm was discharged during the altercation. The neighbor was not injured in the incident, however the suspect may have shot himself.

The suspect fled on foot with a female associate. Officers set up a perimeter, initiated a K-9 track and searched the area for the suspect and his female companion. Neither the suspect nor the female have been located at this time.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his mid-20s, approximately 5’ 5” – 5’ 7” with a thin build, a beard and wearing a hoodie. No description of the suspect’s female associate is available at this time, other than information that she was wearing a backpack.

Officers have located the firearm that is believed to have been involved in the incident. Investigation and a search for the two suspects is ongoing.

Anyone with information on this incident or the identity of the suspect and female is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
