Vacationing Sheriff’s Deputy Saves Life
Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Darin Powers found himself in an emergency situation as he checked in to a resort in Maui, Hawaii on Easter Sunday.
Deputy Powers, originally from Maui and visiting family, heard people calling for help for a male who had drowned in the resort pool. Deputy Powers ran to the pool where the male was found unresponsive, not breathing, and had no pulse. Deputy Powers and another guest at the resort performed CPR and after several minutes, the male resumed breathing on his own. The male was released from the hospital on April 5, 2016 and is expected to make a full recovery.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and Spokane Valley Police are extremely proud of Deputy Powers for his quick thinking, actions and professionalism. Deputy Powers is an outstanding example of the professional deputies that serve our community as well as the communities they visit with their families.
