Windstorm Update

During the November 16 windstorm, 2 women died in separate accidents. These deaths were widely reported, and involved a 54 year old woman on the South Hill who was struck by a falling tree limb in her back yard. The 2nd women, 54 years old, died when her motor vehicle was struck by a falling tree in the Cheney area.

In addition two men died in Spokane County in November as a result of windstorm caused power outages. One was a 70 year old who became incapacitated in his cold residence due to a heart attack, and died of hypothermia. The 2nd death, a 66 year old man had a stroke in his residence, was unable to seek help, and his death was also caused by hypothermia.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office is a referral center for the Idaho Panhandle, and northeast Washington. The Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy for Bonner County in November. An elderly Bonner county male died of hypothermia at his residence in November, after the windstorm and resultant power outages.
