Carjacking Suspect ran over Victim

Spokane Police arrest carjacking suspect who ran over the victim with the stolen vehicle. 

Today July 3, just after 1230 hrs., Spokane Police responded to the report of a carjacking in the area of W. Spokane Falls Blvd., and N. Stevens St.  The suspect, who was not known to the driver of the 2009 Kia Rondo, opened the driver’s door to the vehicle, and attempted to forcefully pull the driver from the vehicle.  During the struggle, the driver was pulled from the vehicle, however their foot was partially stuck and they were drug by the vehicle for a short distance, before being ran over by the vehicle.  Several witnesses to the incident called 911.  One of the witnesses actually followed the stolen vehicle as it got onto Interstate 90 headed westbound at speeds they reported to be around 90 miles per hour.

 

Spokane Police Officers arrived on scene and contacted the victim and witnesses.  Additional Officers attempted to locate the stolen vehicle on Interstate 90.  The stolen vehicle was located on Interstate 90 near the exit for Garden Springs Rd.  Officers conducted a high risk stop on the stolen vehicle which yielded on the exit for Highway 2.  The suspect, 20 year old female Tamara N. Hayes, was taken into custody without incident.  Hayes was arrested for Assault 1st Degree, Robbery 1st Degree, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, and Malicious Mischief 2nd Degree.  Hayes was booked into the Spokane County Jail.  The victim was treated for her injuries, and did get her vehicle back.

 

Although incidents like this are rare, Spokane Police would like to remind the motoring community to keep your doors locked while driving your vehicle.  Be aware of suspicious people or activities around the roadways and your vehicle.  When you see something suspicious, or an incident occur, please don’t be afraid to call Crime Check at (509)456-2233, or 911 in the case of an emergency.  With the help of today’s witnesses the suspect was located and taken into custody without further incident.
