Fatal Crash on Wellesley Road
Spokane Valley Traffic Investigators were called to the scene of a one car fatal crash early this morning on Wellesley Rd. near Ashton Rd.
On May 24, 2018, just prior to 5:30 a.m., Spokane Valley Deputies responded to the report of a vehicle that crashed into a tree. The person reporting the crash noticed the vehicle in the front yard of a house and did not witness the actual crash.
The adult female driver, and sole occupant, was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding medical personnel.
Traffic Investigators were called to the scene to conduct an investigation. SIRT Team Volunteers also responded to assist with traffic control for the closure of Wellesley between Ashton and Billy Jack.
Initial information indicates the driver left the area of Barker and Trent sometime between midnight and approximately 3:00 a.m. and traveled east on Wellesley. Near the 20600 block, the 1999 green Honda Acord (2-door) crossed the centerline onto the westbound shoulder and slid into a tree.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and no witnesses of the crash have been identified. Investigators have not determined what caused the vehicle to cross the centerline and crash; however, they believe speed and impairment may be factors in this fatal crash.
The identity of the deceased will be released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office at a later date once they have completed their investigation.
