Major Crimes Detectives Investigate Fatal Stabbing

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives are investigating the fatal stabbing of an adult male in the 7000 block of N. Atlantic.

On May 23, 2018, just after 9:00 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of an argument & stabbing in the 7000 block of N. Atlantic.

Arriving Deputies assisted by Spokane Police Officers located an adult male victim bleeding heavily from a stab wound to his chest.  The male victim was provided initial life-saving medical attention until AMR and Spokane Fire assumed treatment.  The male was transported by ambulance for an apparent life-threatening injury.

A short time later, Investigators were notified the male succumbed to his injuries.

Major Crimes Detectives were called to the scene to conduct the investigation.

The initial information received was the victim was stabbed during an altercation with three unknown males as he was walking back to the apartments with his girlfriend, 33-year-old Tanessa M. Wilturner, after a trip to the store.

No signs of blood, or a struggle, where located along the route described.  The only indications of heavy bleeding were located on the second-floor walkway near the apartment where the victim had collapsed.

The scene was secured and Detectives began to conduct interviews and collect evidence.  A search warrant for the involved apartment was sought and granted.

Residents of the complex stated they heard arguing at the apartment prior to law enforcement arriving and in the previous days.

With the evidence recovered, coupled with the information learned during interviews as the investigation continued throughout the night and morning, the investigation turned from the initial information reported by Wilturner to a domestic violence incident between her and the victim.

This afternoon, detectives developed probable cause to arrest Wilturner and her 27-year-old cousin, Selena M. Akridge-Davis, charging them with Murder 2nd Degree.

The investigation into this fatal stabbing continues and Detectives ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call Detective Mike Drapeau at 509-477-6920.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office at a later date once they have completed their investigation.
