Division has just reopened between Lincoln and Cozza after a serious crash. Collision Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit and Spokane County Forensics staff finished processing the scene of the fatality crash that happened earlier this evening. One pedestrian was killed in the crash; the other remains in critical condition. No citations have been issued and no arrests have been made at this time.
This evening, January 26, 2018, just before 5:30pm, Spokane Police Officers responded to what came in as a possible pedestrian crash in the 7600 block of north Division. Preliminary information from witnesses indicates that the adult male pedestrian, currently in critical condition, started to cross Division mid-block, not utilizing a crosswalk and was struck by a southbound vehicle. Witnesses said the adult female pedestrian, who is deceased, went to go assist the male and both pedestrians were then hit by a second southbound vehicle, the driver of which was apparently unaware of what had just happened.
Both drivers have been completely cooperative with investigators. Their vehicles, as a matter of routine, were towed from the scene as evidence. At this time, no citations or arrests have been made and investigators anticipate it will take several weeks to possibly months gather all the evidence in this case. Investigators would like to emphasize that the information above is preliminary and could change as the investigation progresses.
Anyone who witnessed the collision who has not yet talked with investigators is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
