Residents and Cat Escape Injury in Early Morning House Fire

Spokane Valley, Wash. – Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) units responded to a reported structure fire in the 14800 block of E. Mission Avenue at 4:48 this morning.  Fire crews arrived to find the residents out of the home and smoke coming out of the attic vents.

The residents noticed an electrical issue in the house and upon investigation, they saw a fire in the attic.  One resident attempted to battle the fire with a fire extinguisher, but found it was inoperable, so both residents and their cat evacuated the home.

Spokane Valley Engine 5 was first on scene and was able to quickly extinguish the approx. 4’x4’ blaze in the attic.

A total of 10 apparatus and support vehicles responded, including an engine from Spokane County Fire District 8. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Spokane Valley Fire Department requests that all residents ensure that their smoke detectors are working and that all fire extinguishers be kept up to date.
