Semi vs Pedestrian on Browne and Main Update
Spokane Police Major Crimes Collision Investigators continue to look into the circumstances around the incident that occurred early this morning at Main and Browne. Early indications are that the pedestrian fell off of the semi-truck after the driver had stopped to allow him to cross the street.

During the investigation this morning, the driver of the semi-truck told investigators the following: He had initially stopped and allowed the pedestrian to cross the street. Seconds later, the driver realized the pedestrian had climbed onto the cab of his truck. When the driver asked him to get off, the pedestrian fell off; sustaining the injuries he had when he fell.
Evidence collected at the scene this morning appears to corroborate the driver’s statement, but investigators have not completed their review of the incident yet. The driver has not been cited for anything at this time.

Semi-truck Vs. Pedestrian collision being investigated in downtown Spokane.
On 06-09-16 at approximately 1:35AM, SPD responded to a pedestrian collision near the intersection of Main and Browne. SPD Officers were the first emergency responders on scene, about two minutes after initial dispatch, and located an injured subject laying in the roadway. Officers immediately began first-aid, and care was later transferred to SFD and AMR paramedics. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
At this time traffic investigators are responding to the scene. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Browne from Spokane Falls to Riverside, and Main from Bernard to Browne will be closed for several hours and citizens are asked to use alternate routes.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call crime check at 509-456-2233. Pedestrians are encouraged to wear bright clothing when walking at night, and use marked crosswalks where available. Drivers are asked to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, and double check the intersection before proceeding through. With vigilance from pedestrians and the motoring public alike we can make Spokane’s roads safer for everyone.
