Shooting Investigation on North Dalton Road

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred this evening at a residence located in the 27300 block of North Dalton Road near Deer Park. The adult male victim was airlifted to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.
Deputies arrived at the residence just prior to 5:00 p.m. and located the victim who appeared to have a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Initial information provided at the scene was the incident began with a physical altercation between the victim and a second adult male identified as 60-year-old Daniel L. Early  and may have been related to drugs. The fight quickly escalated and Early fired shot(s) at the victim before fleeing the scene.
A short time later, Early called 911 and reported he had been assaulted by the victim. He provided his location in the 600 block of East B Street in Deer Park. Deputies quickly responded to the location and detained him without incident.
Spokane County Major Crimes Detectives were called to the scene to continue the investigation.
Early stated he acted in self-defense and has been interviewed by detectives. He is being charged with Assault 1st Degree and will be transported and booked into the Spokane County jail.
Detectives have not been able to interview the victim who is receiving medical attention for his wound.
