The Spokane Investigate Regional Response (SIRR) Team is investigating a Spokane Police Officer involved shooting in North Spokane.

The incident began at approximately 7:22 a.m., this morning when a burglary alarm was reported at 4120 North Division.  A Spokane Police Officer arrived at the scene within minutes of being dispatched.

At one point during the incident, the officer confronted the suspect who fled on foot.  During the foot pursuit, the suspect produced a handgun, and in response, the officer fired his department-issued weapon.  The suspect was not struck and continued to flee on foot.  The officer caught up to the suspect and a violent physical fight occurred.  During the arrest of the suspect, a Taser was deployed.

Both the suspect and officer received injuries and were provided medical attention.

The suspect, 39-year-old Cephas W. Parham, will be transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for felony charges of Burglary 1st Degree and Assault 2nd Degree.

This continues to be an active and ongoing investigation. SIRR detectives and Spokane County Forensic Unit Technicians are continuing to process evidence, interview witnesses and interview the officers involved with this incident.

The SIRR Team is comprised of multiple agencies in Eastern Washington, including the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, Spokane Police Department, and Airway Heights Police Department.

• The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is the managing agency in this incident. All future communications on this incident will be sent via the SIRR Team.

• The Spokane Police Department will release the name of the officer(s) involved in this incident.

• Once the SIRR Team investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
