Four time convicted felon arrested with two firearms and heroin after a short foot chase and standoff.

Today at approximately, 9:45 AM Officer Mongan attempted to stop a suspicious male in the 700 block of South Lacey Street. The male ran from Officer Mongan, leading him on a short foot chase. The male then ran inside a nearby house. The resident of the house advised police she did not know the male, but he was trying to hide inside her closet. As more units arrived on scene, it was revealed the male had a firearm with him when he arrived. Also, there were two uninvolved women in the house who had been visiting.

The male was identified as Wesley D. Shandy (34). Shandy was wanted by Department of Corrections for an outstanding warrant.

Officers surrounded the house and ordered the occupants out. The women exited and were safely removed from the incident. Shandy exited immediately after and was taken into custody without incident.

A search of the house yielded two firearms and ammunition, which, after a thorough investigation were found to have been in Shandy’s possession when he arrived. Shandy is a four time convicted felon, which include convictions for robbery, possession of stolen property, malicious mischief with a weapon and possession of a controlled substance. He is prohibited from possessing any firearm.

Shandy was booked into the Spokane County Regional jail facility for two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of justice and the warrant.

This is another prime example of how Spokane Police officers are proactive in their daily patrols to locate and apprehend dangerous criminals. Spokane Police encourages everyone to document the makes, models and serial numbers of any firearms, electronics, power tools, etc. This information can be given to police if any of the items are stolen. This significantly increases the chance of getting the items returned to the rightful owners.
