Update: 2200 E. 4th Structure Fire, CAUSE OF FATAL FIRE UNDER INVESTIGATION

Investigators have determined the cause of a fire that claimed the lives of two people this weekend was accidental in nature. Investigation into the fire is ongoing.

The Spokane Fire Department Special Investigations Unit (SIU), with the assistance of Spokane Police Major Crimes detectives and an investigator from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), spent the majority of the day on Saturday and part of the day Sunday investigating the fatal fire. Investigators believe the fire started in the second story bedroom and was accidental in nature. Investigation into the specific cause of the fire is ongoing.

Autopsies on the victims were performed today and their identities and the official cause of their death will be released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
