Witnesses Chase Armed Suspect after Theft of a Purse

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies attempted to locate a suspect vehicle and its occupants after a reported robbery last night on the South Hill.  Witnesses stated they were pursuing the suspect vehicle and one of the suspects pointed a gun and shot at them.  Deputies did not locate the suspects or any evidence of a shooting, but Major Crimes Detectives are investigating the incident.

Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed this incident or has video surveillance that captures the route taken during this incident, to contact Detective Nate Bohanek at 509-477-3223.

On June 5, 2019, at approximately 5:10 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an initial report of a theft of a purse from the parking lot of Albertson’s, located at 3010 E. 57th Avenue.  The victim stated a male suspect took her purse and got into a Gold PT Cruiser type vehicle with no license plates and fled the parking lot.

Arriving Deputies received additional information that a witness was actively following the suspect vehicle near 62nd and Moran.  In the area of 57th and Regal, it was reported the male passenger pointed a gun at the witness, and the driver of the suspect vehicle was a white female.

As Deputies tried to intercept the suspects, another witness reported the vehicle near 54th and Hatch.  This witness stated the suspect shot at him in a residential area between 46th and 53rd, and between Perry and Crestline.  A deputy contacted the witness/victim who said he lost the vehicle near 49th and Crestline area.  He stated the male passenger had an older style revolver.

Deputies searched the area and were unable to locate the suspect vehicle or any additional victims or witnesses.

A witness recovered the victim’s purse after the suspects threw it out of the car in the 6200 block of S. Moran Drive.

The victim who owned the purse confirmed the suspects stole some cash from the purse, but the rest of her property was recovered.  She said she had her purse in her cart and was opening the door of her vehicle when she heard a noise.  She looked back and noticed the male suspect grab her purse and flee.  The suspect ran and was picked up by a Gold PT Cruiser, without license plates, driven by a female suspect.

Major Crimes Detectives are investigating this extremely dangerous incident which thankfully ended without anyone being injured.

The male suspect is described as a white male, 20 – 26 years of age, 5’08” – 6’00”, 130 – 150 lbs., with brown hair.

The female was described as white, 28 – 40 years of age, unknown height, 160 – 190 lbs., with blonde hair.

Anyone who witnessed this incident, can help identify/locate the suspects or suspect vehicle, or have video surveillance that captures the route taken during this incident (see attached map), is urged to contact Detective Nate Bohanek at 509-477-3223.
