Spokane Police Department Special Victims Unit arrests babysitter for Assault of a Child 1st Degree.

On June 5, 2019, Spokane Police Officers responded to an area hospital for a report of child abuse. The victim, a two-year old child, had been transported by ambulance with significant and unexplained injuries. Patrol Officers requested the assistance of the Major Crimes Unit and the Special Victims Unit Detectives. After the initial investigation at the hospital, it was believed the victim had been in the care of the baby-sitter.

The baby-sitter was contacted at her residence and agreed to speak with investigators at the detectives’ office. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the victim’s residence to collect evidence of the alleged abuse.

Probable cause was established to arrest 22 year-old, Felisha J. Brownlow and she was booked into the Spokane County Jail for RCW 9A.36.120, Assault of a Child 1st Degree.

Brownlow had been hired by the victim’s mother from a social media site offering baby-sitting services. Brownlow provided a resume and her references were checked. Though the victim’s mother did her best to vet the potential baby-sitter, as an extra layer of precaution, the Spokane Police Department recommends using a licensed child care provider when searching for child care services.
